For those of you who are a little green to the tracking game, Google Analytics may seem like a bunch of mumbo jumbo. To put it plainly, the free platform (owned by the world’s largest search engine) allows you to track visitors to your videos.

How to connect your channel to your Analytics

It’s actually a very simple process – you’ll get it done in a matter of minutes. Follow these simple steps and you’ll be well on your way to becoming a stats aficionado. You need two things before you begin. 1) a YouTube channel and 2) a Google Analytics account.

Step 1: New web property on Analytics

This step will create a unique tracking ID that will allow you to connect your YouTube channel to a specific campaign on Analytics. You’ll do this by going to your Admin section on Google Analytics  and open up the Property section on your management page.

There, you’ll find a ‘Create New Property’ button, which will open up a set of fields that you’ll need to fill in with your campaign specifics. When it asks you for your Website URL, ensure you enter your YouTube Channels address correctly.

Finally, click on Get Tracking ID and you’ll get a unique letters and numbers combination for you to copy. It will have the following format: UA-1234567-12

Step 2: Head over to YouTube and enter your Analytics ID

Next, head over to your YouTube channel and go to your Account Settings area. On Setting Overview, you’ll find the ‘View Additional Features’ button. On Channel Settings, go ahead and click on Advanced (left-hand side).

This is where you can paste your Analytics Tracking ID. The exact field is near the bottom of the page. Just as a note, you’ll have to wait around 24-48 hours before the data starts showing up on Analytics.
