MELBOURNE MUSIC WEEK
Melbourne has a thriving music scene and is home to many world-renowned bands and creative talents. To celebrate that, the city is organizing the Melbourne Music Week (MMW) – a buzzing festival stretching over 9 days in over 100 venues across town. The MMW is the only event of its type in Australia and is truly putting the spotlight on the depth and diversity of Melbourne’s innovative music scene. It is the result of a range of independent venues, labels and other industry-related businesses working together to set up a fantastic program – whether it’s an intimate performance in an unusual venue, or headline concerts at Melbourne Town Hall. The full program will be live on October 17, 2017, so keep an eye on their website here.
THE MMW HUB
Speaking of unusual venues: Each year, the MMW nominates a central hub to bundle some of the biggest acts. And oftentimes, it is set up in a rather unusual place for a big party, with past hubs being the formerly abandoned Argus Building or the State Library. This year, the organisers topped up the game and will be turning St Paul’s Cathedral into a bass-pumping festival base. On both weekends of the festival, Melbourne’s major record labels and party producers will be playing the cathedral with an eclectic mix of genres, ranging from acoustic to mellow house to hammering techno beats. We’re not sure if the cathedral dean spotted DJ Hell on the line-up yet, but it looks like it’s gonna be an unforgettable event at a stunning location. Another iconic Melbourne landmark that will be taken over by beautiful sounds and dancing people is Melbourne Town Hall. In collaboration with Creative Victoria, MMW is hosting more than 20 artists on three levels on the night of November 19. Experience everything from Grand Organ concerts in the Main Hall to groovy DJ sets in the Council Chambers, featuring some of the best local talents of Victoria.
