The moment is here. Your masterpiece is complete…you have been planning, creating and producing this video for what seems like endless hours and finally, you have let go and released it into the wild. Your video is now accessible to the public, it is online. Bring on the viewers you say!
Hang on a second…. it seems that people are not appreciating your fine craftsmanship. How come it has had so few views? Don’t people understand the humour? Do they not get the cheekiness? Is it the brilliance (or lack of?) Is there something wrong with the value of the content? What is happening?!
Well, don’t freak out just yet. As I have mentioned in other blog posts, there is much more to popular videos than just great quality. And we have some proven ideas on how to promote them. Here are just a few ways to increase your audience and to make sure that your video performs and produces the return you are expecting.
Let´s start with the most obvious, yet vital ones. The must haves are Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, Linkedin, Pinterest, Google+ and Vimeo. Posting, optimising and sharing your video on these social networks will certainly bring an initial boost to views. As much as you may despise it, PR always comes in handy, as well as press releases and of course, using your own website and company blog as a promotion tool.
But why stop there? A great idea is to also include other forums, blogs and bloggers, by submitting your videos to be published on their blogs, or simply as links on post responses. Many of them are trendsetters and have a high amount of followers, so if they embed your video into a blog post, you will reap the benefits. Next, simply go back to basics. Use your own Email database and create a Campaign, then ask your friends and partners to promote your video in their campaigns as well. Why not spread the word and share the love? (Well in this case, the video).
Then there are the classic promotional tools (not as glamorous and perhaps a little underestimated nowadays): banner advertising, print and large display campaigns with QR codes, brochures and digital signage. If you are looking to impress, why not produce video brochures? It’s a great way to create a memorable and unique impression.
Care for more? Let´s embark on a journey to the world of YouTube. When your video is uploaded, in comes YouTube Organic optimisation (the process of improving the traffic towards your website by making it more prominent in search engine results, using specific targeted keywords); then there is YouTube in-stream advertising; YouTube in-search (where the viewer has to choose to watch your video or there’s no charge); YouTube banners & promoted videos; your own Branded YouTube Channel; YouTube playlists, and also, your video can be promoted on YouTube video comments. That’s a mighty list.
