Health, hygiene and safety are often the topic of video campaigns, and for good reason. Amidst a whirlwind of misinformation, video can help authorities, brands and service providers articulate important updates in an understandable, engaging way and help us make informed decisions. It can be a powerful tool to help make a difference.
Sometimes it’s as simple as an explainer animation with the right visual aids to make sense of the situation. Sometimes it’s powerful, confronting imagery that cuts right to the consequence of inaction. Other times it’s a catchy jingle, a memorable character, a short-sharp instantly recognisable phrase, that prompts healthy changes in behaviour.
Here are some of our favourite health, hygiene and safety-oriented video campaigns promoting health and hygiene.
This video, from officials in Vietnam, turned the 2017 pop song ‘Ghen’ into a music video that quickly blew up in popularity and sparked a viral dance trend on the increasingly popular, video-based social media platform, Tik Tok.

Some 33 years later, one of the most memorable advertisements was the iconic 80s ‘Grim Reaper’ television campaign (TVC) addressing the spread of HIV/AIDS. It’s stark symbolism, portraying HIV as the Grim Reaper knocking people down as if they were bowling pins, and serves as a powerful reminder to take preventative measures.
The Cancer Council demonstrated the power of video in changing people’s behaviour and promoting healthier practises. A good video is impactful, memorable, entertaining but above all, informative. Sid the Seagull and the Cancer Council’s monumentally successful ‘Slip, Slop, Slap’ campaign, a long-running television campaign that changed the way Australian’s think about a day in the sun.
We often have a lot of questions when it comes to healthcare. This animated explainer – produced here by us at Creativa – serves as a succinct reminder of healthcare rights in Australia. Intended to screened within medical institution waiting rooms, the video helps make visits more comfortable for patients.
Another memorable campaign with lasting impact includes the WorkSafe Victoria television campaigns targeting young workers. Its impact stems larger from the grizzly nature of the narrative it presents. Warning: it’s a bit gruesome. Intended as a reminder to young people in the workforce to speak up and ask questions in they’re ever unsure, I can personally attest to its success. Seeing this on TV as a teenager means I always err on the side of caution at work.
Given the recent outbreak of COVID-19, the team here at Creativa has taken steps to reduce risk within the studio without impeding the progress of our ongoing projects, adopting a work from home policy wherever possible. We’re taking the current situation very seriously and, in our capacity as a video production and animation studio, want to help.
With the drive for remote working across the globe, there is more urgency for impactful, topical and responsible content. We need to stay connected during this time of disconnect and isolation.
