In what seems like another clever move by the Black Keys, preceding their Australian tour in October and building from the success of the clip for their single Lonely Boy”, they have turned to You Tube to find an unlikely star to promote their shows. If you haven’t seen the original clip I highly recommend heading clicking on the video below or heading over to the bands youtube channel.
Derrick T. Tuggle the star of the clip was originally only meant to be an extra and he ended up stealing the show.
And now shortly before their Tour down under this little gem has appeared and is doing the rounds online.
It’s hard to say if this is a crafted PR piece or just a cool accidentas the promoters of the clip would like us to believe but it is safe to say that after only a week and over 570,000 views it no longer really matters.
This is a perfect example of how you tube can be used to source local and relatively unknown talent or even create celebrities by association. Smart businesses and marketers should be paying attention to pioneers like the Black Keys and cool accidents because even in a global economy there is still a local market that needs to be reached and what better way to do it than by using sites like you tube.
