Background:
The Court Services Victoria (CSV) Act 2014 was enacted to establish Court Services Victoria as an independent statutory body corporate responsible for providing services and facilities to Victoria’s courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, and the Judicial College of Victoria. As part of CSV’s commitment to addressing family violence within the court system, a series of awareness training videos were created for court staff.
Challenge
The purpose of these videos is to educate and empower court staff to better understand, identify, and respond to cases involving family violence. The primary objective of the training videos is to enhance the knowledge and skills of court staff in handling cases related to family violence.
Methodology
The training videos were developed through a collaborative process involving subject matter experts, family violence specialists, and experienced court staff.
The outcome
The videos increased awareness of family violence dynamics, improved understanding of relevant legislation, enhanced identification of signs of abuse, and strengthened staff response and collaboration with support services. Positive feedback from staff highlighted the practical guidance, real-life scenarios, and interactive elements that facilitated effective learning and engagement. Overall, the training videos proved successful in equipping court staff to better address family violence cases.
