We’re thrilled to unveil our latest digital out-of-home media project, a stunning 3D animated billboard for Coca-Cola’s ‘Coke in a Box’ campaign, created in collaboration with the innovative team at Ogilvy New Zealand!

 

Behind the Scenes: Crafting a Remarkable 3D Outdoor Advertising Experience

My direction for this project focused on the seamless integration of using a blend of live-action production and cutting-edge 3D animation, a powerful example of how digital out-of-home media (DOOH) can captivate audiences in high-traffic public spaces.

Why This Billboard Stands Out

This project is a standout example of how 3D anamorphic billboards can be used to turn heads, spark curiosity, and leave a lasting brand impression. The billboard was designed to be immersive, dynamic, and eye-catching, which is everything you want in digital outdoor media.

Live Action Production: Collaborating with the Best

To begin with, for the live-action shoot, we collaborated with beverage specialist and prop master Peter Blackwood at Glow Studios. Peter designed a custom tank specifically for this shoot, matching the precise size specifications of the billboard, allowing it to visually represent a glass of Coke being filled. We had to build a tank that fit this aspect ratio and drain out from the bottom, as if being drunk from a straw. A big shoutout to Jeremy Pitman (DP/Post Production) for his expert technical knowledge and seamless execution and Steve Bristow (Producer at Creativa) for ensuring everything ran smoothly, especially during one of the busiest times of the year! This live shoot laid the perfect foundation for the next phase, bringing the product to life in 3D outdoor media.

3D Animation & Post-Production: Bringing Magic to Life

The second component of the campaign brought the magic to life in 3D! We pushed creative boundaries with highly detailed, fluid simulations and visual storytelling. A massive thank you to Jason Poley (Animator/Fluid Sim Artist) for his spectacular work on liquid animations and dynamic movement.

Creativa’s Julian Rodriguez (2D and 3D Generalist) worked on modelling the bottle, compositing, and rotoscoping, elevating the visual quality and realism of the animation. Lester, (Producer at Creativa), organised and coordinated the post production process. Without him, we wouldn’t have been able to bring this project to life so seamlessly.
