At Creativa, we know the struggle customers can have when deciphering complex information, especially when it’s got to do with information specific to their exact circumstances. That’s why we were excited to partner with Media Super to create a series of dynamic videos that broke down the complexities of their members’ superannuation balances in a fun and active way.
So what was the end product?
✔️ Engaging series of videos
✔️ Personalised video animation unique to each member’s data will be hosted on our personalised video platform, Spark.
✔️ Combination of frame-by-frame animation and computer motion graphics
So why were each of these points so important for us to hit? Well, having engaging videos is a given (and is what Creativa is known for!) but as for the others:
To personalise or not to personalise?
Personalised videos engage viewers via tailored messages, and drive targeted actions via specific data insights, which was something Media Super recognised as invaluable. They wanted to give their members the opportunity to see their account balances, projected outcomes for the future, and information about their superannuation contributions. In order to demystify these investment strategies and break down complex information for their members, going the personalised route was a no-brainer.
With Creativa’s own personalised video platform, Spark, these videos would be delivered straight to members’ inboxes with their own unique videos showing the information most important to them.
But there’s no point in having a personalised video if the video content itself isn’t eye-catching, engaging and entertaining. Otherwise, why would someone want to watch it, whether it had important data in it or not? That’s why our thought was, “why not combine frame-by-frame animation, and computer generated motion graphics for that extra little something?”.
The Dynamic Duo: Frame-By-Frame + Computer Animation
If you’re a follower of our blog, you have already learned what frame-by-frame animation is all about.
But in a nutshell, the advantage of frame-by-frame as an animation technique is that its strength lies in its versatility and timeless appeal. It remains a cornerstone of the animation industry, for its handcrafted quality and ability to convey depth and nuance.
On the other hand, computer animation grants us super-speed capabilities for quick tweaks and adjustments. With After Effects, we can finesse intricate scenarios without the need to painstakingly sketch every frame.
So, what are the benefits of combining these two techniques? Combining the flexibility of having hand-drawn characters, with the sleek effect of computer generated animation gets you the best of both worlds and gives you lots of artistic options. This fusion not only adds personality to your video but also ensures that you stand out from the crowd.
As seen in the above.GIF, our main characters were brought to life using frame-by-frame animation to do actions that would be almost impossible with computer motion graphics. Which was instead used for background details like scenery, props, and supporting characters. It’s the best of both worlds, giving us dynamic visuals without sacrificing efficiency or quality.
Final thoughts on a successful campaign
Media Super recognised the growing demand for personalised, easily digestible information in video format. Wrapping these dynamic animations in the form of personalised videos delivered exactly what they wanted, and it was something that we are really proud of! The campaign proved very successful, and because some Creativa staff are also Media Super members – they were able to see their own data represented in the videos we made!
At Creativa, we’re dedicated to leveraging the latest tools and techniques to craft unforgettable visual experiences. Reach out to us if you want to use this tried and tested combination of frame-by-frame, computer animation, and personalised videos to stand out in the crowded digital landscape.
