Promoting women’s rights “A feminist future”

Helping an Australian Not for Profit Promote Women’s Rights and Gender Equality Using Animation

Challenge

The International Women’s Development Agency (IWDA) is an organisation that works to promote women’s rights and gender equality in the Asia Pacific region. One of their movements is a ground-breaking women’s leadership program called Women’s Action for Voice and Empowerment (WAVE). They came to us for a video that could be used as outreach to their network. It had to reflect diversity and equality. It had to count.

Response

We began simply by listening, by inquiring, by getting a real sense of the IWDA and its objectives. We developed a visual style that was accessible, easy-to-look-at and just realistic enough – and we designed our characters with diversity in mind. This was a key theme that had to be expressed. We made the choice to partner with poet and activist Anna McGahan who wrote and performed the piece. We also made sure to structure the video so that it could be cut down – different lengths for different channels – so that it could move as far as possible online.

Outcome

Powerful. Inspiring. Inspiring. At least, that’s what people say to us. The video is distributed widely in iterations of varying lengths and across multiple channels. Responses from the public suggest it is moving hearts and minds.

Testimonial

We’re so happy we worked with Creativa to bring our big vision to life. Not only do they have the expertise to deliver beautiful stories, they also take the time to understand an organisation and its message.
